When one is a fee-for-service, or private business, counselor/therapist it is essential to have clients stay on service caseload due to each client equals 30 minutes to 1 hour of pay toward salary. Every therapy process provided by counselors/therapist are not the same, the forum may be similar, yet the style of how service is provided are not the same. The 1st important part of therapy service is “building rapport” between client and the therapist. The 2nd important part is the client’s williness to be open-minded to “do the work for change”.
If a client is only seeking therapy service due to a referral from others, there is a chance that the client does not believe in or trust the therapy process. In turn, the client will lack motivation to complete the required amount of time in therapy service to invoke change. There are also client’s who seek therapy service yet unable to develop trust or a connection with the therapist. This can cause the client to be less enthusiastic about working on change.

Sometimes being a fee-for-service therapist can feel just like being a sales person or a telemarketer. The therapist/counselor are contacting the client to see if a new date of session can be scheduled after a laps in contact from client to response to different forms of outreach (phone call, email, papermail, text). There are severe mental health diagnosis that may require some clients recieve support with remembering to schedule sessions.
If a client informs the counselor/therapist or the agency, that the client is looking for a change in provider or to put therapy service on hold should support for decision be provided? When does support for the client mental health cross the line over to harassment from outreach by the therapist/counselor?
