I have experienced opportunities of working a position in a team environment and work on my own with no co-worker or manager at home or out in the field. My experience is both types of positions can produce burnout symptoms when the workload is extreme. I find it helpful to reduce symptoms of burnout when I have a co-worker or management to brainstorm and collaborate.
Burnout is a mental health concern the individual should do his/her best to reach out to others or professionals for support or assistance. Maybe some individuals who have an introvert personality, feeling comfortable focusing on inner thoughts and ideas, rather than what’s happening externally while enjoying spending time with just one or two people, rather than large groups or crowds, may enjoy the calm to focus and complete a task and do not benefit from the team environment to reduce burnout symptoms. That is just a thought since I exhibit an extrovert personality, individuals that get their energy from being around other people and may appear talkative and popular among peers, I enjoy the idea of having the support of a team environment to push through and complete a task.
As a Marriage and Family Therapist the team environment may seem non-existent, however reaching out to fellow colleagues at the end of the day or the end of the week to review interventions and professional goals can help to reduce burnout symptoms. An entrepreneur maybe able to do the same by reaching out to similar business creators or mentors through networking to help find beneficial solutions to organizing and marketing products and services. I am not stating that burnout symptoms do not occur in both environment because burnout can occur at anywhere at any time over anything! I am simply stating from my experience it has occurred quicker in my individual contract or Fee-For-Service or working at home positions.
