Exams and tests can crush an individual’s confidence

Since my early adulthood I have observed that exams and tests are used as proof of the knowledge, not skills, needed to retain to a job position in a professional field. Some employers may use position exams or tests to determine the competency of the current employee for the possibility of promotion. Is this process fair for a seasoned 5 + year employee or a potential employee with 5+ years of experience? There are some job professions where an educational requirement for a job position is mandatory. However, some individuals who have the required education and several years of experience are not obtaining positions because of failing an exam or a test.

There are some job positions where years of education, training, and supervision is required to allow one the ability to develop the mindset, book knowledge, and skills to be a competent provider or resource. If you already have the education and experience is an evaluation or exam necessary or an elimination tool?

There are possibilities of individuals passing an exam or a test and providing poor problematic service. These individuals display a consistent need or request for support with a project, assignment, or providing service. The lack of hands-on-experience by a less competent individual may cause burnout develop in other employees in the work place. An individual’s confidence maybe connected to accomplishments and service provided in a job position for an extended amount of time and experience. The reality of failing an exam or test and not being able to advance or be acknowledged in a job position can result in a decrease in confidence.

I feel if the employer needs to review the competence of an employee a physical observation, customer review, or survey about the employee abilities may provide an empathetic approach.
